Our President Prof. Barış Tan Attended the Ceremony for the Signature of the Magna Charta Universitatum MCU 2020

Özyeğin University President Prof. Barış Tan attended the ceremony for the signature of the Magna Charta Universitatum MCU 2020 in London, United Kingdom, on November 13, 2025. Hosted by King’s College London, the ceremony is part of the Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU 2020), the 2020–2025 quinquennial conference of the updated Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU). The conference brings university leaders, scholars, policymakers, and students from around the globe.

The original MCU was signed by 388 universities worldwide in 1988, entitled MCU 1988, on the 900th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Bologna, the oldest continuously operating university in the world. The document incorporated the fundamental principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy, aiming to guide universities internationally in achieving good governance and self-understanding. Özyeğin University signed the MCU 1988 in 2021. As a result of the necessary changes that universities have been operating, the MCU 1988 has been revised and adopted by the Governing Council of the Magna Charta Observatory (MCO) in July 2020. Özyeğin University has been a signatory to the MCU 2020 since June 9, 2021, and is among the nearly 1,000 universities from 94 countries that have signed one of the versions of the document.
