Student UAV Team Established with Openfab Support Achieves Its First TEKNOFEST Milestone

Türkiye’s first-ever student UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Team established with the support of OpenFab at Özyeğin University has reached a major milestone by officially submitting its application for the TEKNOFEST competition, marking a first in the University’s history. Comprising nearly 30 students from a wide range of academic disciplines, the team has also successfully completed the development of Özyeğin University's first long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) prototype.

Working under the leadership of Cengiz Tezel, Senior Project Development Specialist at OpenFab, the team has been supported by Openfab with workspace, technical equipment, and financial resources throughout the project. Taking a highly interdisciplinary approach, the students designed and built their UAV prototype and successfully passed the preliminary evaluation of the TEKNOFEST competition.

The project developed by Özyeğin University students presents innovative solutions with applications in agriculture, reconnaissance, and surveillance, while providing students with invaluable hands-on experience in software development, engineering design, manufacturing, testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
